Development of the Deschutes Paddle Trail is an ongoing project. There are many opportunities to help by volunteering or contributing resources. The BPTA website (www.bendpaddletrailalliance.org) is a good source of information to learn about the paddle trail and ways to help.
The paddle trail needs more access points, and many of the current put-ins and take-outs need to be improved. Amenities such as toilet facilities, campgrounds, and picnic areas need to be added or improved. Signage needs to be added and maintained to provide information about distances to landing areas, access places, hazards that require portages, private property issues, and amenities. Riparian restoration and protection are needed in many areas along the paddle trail.
In addition to BPTA, several organizations need support and volunteers to do this work; these groups are listed under general information and stewardship.
